Japan: Evening Storms Bring Heavy Rain, Lightning and Hail to Kanto Region

On August 27, the Kanto region experienced another day of clear skies and rising temperatures, with central Tokyo marking its 10th consecutive extreme heat day, setting a new record for consecutive days of severe heat. In the evening, due to moist air and other factors, localized rain clouds developed, bringing lightning, hail, and sudden heavy downpours. A tornado advisory was issued for Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture.

RECAP: Spain Faces Record Wildfires Amid Extreme Heat

In August 2025, Spain is experiencing one of its worst wildfire seasons in over 30 years. Around 20 large fires have erupted nationwide, fueled by high temperatures and dry conditions, resulting in at least four deaths and thousands of evacuations. Over 3,000 soldiers and firefighters are deployed to combat the blazes.

Japan: Tokyo Hit by Evening Downpours and Flooding After Extreme Heat

On the evening of August 18, heavy rain hit parts of Tokyo, flooding some roads. Severe rain and flood warnings were issued for eastern Tokyo’s Arakawa Ward and western Tama. Earlier the same day, the Kanto region experienced extreme heat, with temperatures soaring above body temperature in several areas, including 39°C recorded in Fuchu City. The intense heat caused highly unstable atmospheric conditions, leading to the rapid development of thunderstorms across the region by the evening.

US: Severe Storms Move Into Tampa Amid Record Heat

Tampa was hit by severe thunderstorms with strong winds while temperatures reached a highest record of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (about 38 degrees Celsius). The National Weather Service also issued weather alerts for the area.
